As global manufacturing rapidly advances toward Industry 4.0, Taiwan’s enterprises are transforming through innovation and demonstrating strong global competitiveness.
Orisol Taiwan Ltd. (Orisol) has been honored with the 9th National Industrial Innovation Award by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, in recognition of its outstanding achievements in footwear automation and smart manufacturing.
The company has become a benchmark for digital transformation in traditional industries and a key driver ushering in the next era of smart factories.

Innovation Recognized: Leading Taiwan’s Smart Manufacturing Transformation

From 305 submissions, the 9th National Industrial Innovation Awards selected 25 organizations, 8 teams, and 19 individuals, recognizing Taiwan’s breakthroughs in semiconductors, AI, health technology, and sustainable innovation.
Orisol stood out for its long-term dedication to intelligent automation and smart manufacturing solutions for the footwear industry — demonstrating Taiwan’s pivotal role in the global supply chain.
During the award ceremony, Premier Cho Jung-tai emphad that innovation is the driving force behind Taiwan’s economic transformation. Orisol’s recognition not only underscores its technological leadership but also aligns with the government’s “Five Trust Industries” and “AI 10 Major Initiatives”, both of which promote industrial digitalization and AI-driven transformation.
In the era of smart manufacturing, time has evolved from a cost factor to a measure of competitiveness. Traditional factory network infrastructures often lack precise time synchronization and rely on non-deterministic communication protocols, leading to delayed data transmission and unresponsive scheduling. In the footwear industry — where small-batch, high-mix production and flexible layouts are essential — achieving real-time data exchange, anomaly response, and autonomous equipment adjustment represents a critical milestone toward Industry 4.0.
According to the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking, Taiwan ranks third globally in R&D expenditure as a share of GDP, a testament to its innovation-driven competitiveness. Orisol’s success arises from its precise grasp of the industry’s pain points — from computer-controlled stitching, to AI vision-assisted adhesive systems, to IoT-based data acquisition — progressively realizing fully automated and intelligent production lines.

This award not only recognizes Orisol’s strong R&D capabilities but also symbolizes the rise of Taiwan’s traditional industries on the global smart manufacturing stage.

TSN Integration: A Key Step Toward Smart Manufacturing

At a pivotal moment for industrial digitalization, Orisol has leveraged years of experience in Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) applications to enhance its product line. TSN is compatible with diverse existing protocols and fundamentally improves safety, security, and sustainability. By introducing TSN into mission-critical manufacturing applications requiring low latency and stability, Orisol has achieved major gains in reliability and communication assurance.
The company’s proprietary Safety Security Shield (SSS) — based on TSN principles — enhances real-time response speeds by over 50 times, significantly improving operational safety for both personnel and equipment.
Orisol will now fully implement IEEE 802.1 TSN technology across its entire footwear equipment portfolio, elevating the industry’s digital maturity.
Through precise time synchronization, low-latency transmission, and high-reliability communication (enabled by IEEE 802.1AS), the company’s PDCS (Production Data Control System) integrates real-time data exchange and optimized resource management — advancing production efficiency and manufacturing agility.

Wi-Fi TSN: The Next Frontier of Footwear Equipment Communication

Wi-Fi TSN

The convergence of Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) and wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi 6 opens new possibilities for smart factories — offering microsecond-level synchronization, wireless deployment flexibility, and high reliability.
In traditional footwear production, wired network setups are often complex and inflexible. The adoption of wireless TSN transforms production by enabling:

  • Flexible deployment — No need for wired Ethernet; machines can be freely positioned according to production needs.
  • Real-time control — Ensures synchronized data exchange between actuators and sensors, improving response speed and yield.
  • Open architecture — Supports OPC UA over TSN across both Windows and Linux environments, enabling interoperability between multi-brand equipment and smart platforms.

These advantages address mobility, high-density, and low-latency requirements beyond the capabilities of wired networks. Orisol’s entire product portfolio now supports TSN — including the N Series (e.g., ONS 5035, ONS 3525, ONS 3020), the industry’s first computer-controlled stitching solutions, and the R Series (ARCS), an AI vision-based robotic spraying system. Field testing shows performance improvements exceeding 80% in maximum response speed.
Traditional Wi-Fi systems often suffer from congestion and security vulnerabilities. By adopting Intel® Wi-Fi 6E AX210 modules, both the N and R Series can operate seamlessly in wireless, high-mobility factory environments.
With Wi-Fi TSN, Orisol enhances synchronization accuracy by more than 30 times, enabling real-time control, flexible deployment, and digital transformation — key pillars of next-generation smart factories.

Industry Outlook: TSN as the Backbone of Industrial Convergence

As Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) networks converge, TSN will redefine manufacturing — transitioning from closed “information islands” to open, interoperable ecosystems that boost speed, agility, efficiency, and innovation. Historically, TSN was limited to wired Ethernet, restricting its use in mobility-dependent production environments. However, with the maturity of Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and the emergence of Wi-Fi 7, wireless TSN architectures are now becoming reality. According to market reports, the global TSN market is expected to grow from USD 490 million in 2024 to USD 3.62 billion by 2030, at a compound annual growth rate of 39.6% — underscoring its role as a foundational technology for smart manufacturing.
This trend reflects strong demand for low-latency, high-reliability communication and rising confidence in the maturity of TSN technologies.

Shaping the Future of Smart Industry from Footwear Innovation

By integrating Wi-Fi TSN, Orisol bridges the traditional trade-off between precision and flexibility, empowering manufacturers to maintain high productivity and stability in a fast-changing market. The company’s recognition with the National Industrial Innovation Award underscores its problem-driven innovation mindset and unwavering commitment to smart manufacturing. From pioneering computer-controlled sewing machines to developing digital platform solutions, Orisol has remained at the forefront of industrial innovation. Looking ahead, the company plans to combine AI, edge computing, and factory-wide system integration to further expand smart manufacturing applications — helping traditional industries achieve faster, more agile, and sustainable transformation.
“Our vision is to provide a total solution that integrates both equipment and software to help the footwear industry realize truly intelligent manufacturing,” said Rock Lee, Chairman of Orisol.
“With the recognition of the National Industrial Innovation Award and the support of our global partners, Orisol is taking Taiwan as its starting point to open a new chapter in global smart manufacturing.”
