Taiwan has officially entered the 5G era this year. With its ability to dramatically enhance connectivity efficiency, 5G—through collaborations between telecom providers and automation companies—is accelerating the digital transformation of Taiwan’s manufacturing sector.
Shoe equipment manufacturer ORISOL Precision Industrial has joined forces with FarEasTone Telecommunications and Siemens, a global leader in smart manufacturing solutions, to implement Siemens’ open IoT cloud platform MindSphere. By integrating 5G and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies, the partnership aims to upgrade ORISOL’s production lines into fully intelligent manufacturing systems.
Siemens MindSphere will help ORISOL collect and analyze operational data from production equipment to enable intelligent data-driven insights. This allows seamless machine-to-machine communication and collaboration. By continuously monitoring parameters such as power consumption, torque, and frequency, MindSphere helps optimize machine utilization, increase productivity, reduce unexpected costs, and achieve better energy data management and resource allocation.
ORISOL is also integrating its self-developed ROMPS (Remote Operation Maintenance Platform Solution) into Siemens MindSphere. Leveraging 5G's high-speed connectivity and AR's immersive interactive capabilities, the platform enables virtual-real integration for remote equipment maintenance and support. This ensures uninterrupted operations and services, even during periods of restricted factory access or travel limitations brought by the pandemic.
Erdal Elver, President and CEO of Siemens Taiwan, stated that 5G will unleash more innovative technologies and applications. Siemens aims to guide enterprises in leveraging 5G as a core infrastructure to accelerate industrial digitalization and smart transformation.
Tino Hildebrand, General Manager of Siemens Digital Industries Taiwan, added that this collaboration with FarEasTone and ORISOL introduces Siemens' industrial cloud technology, allowing data to be rapidly connected, collected, and analyzed in real time. Combined with MindSphere's modular cloud applications, the collected big data can be transformed into actionable business intelligence, thereby expediting the journey toward smart manufacturing.
ORISOL Chairman Jimmy Lee emphasized that the company is dedicated to providing total solutions for every stage of the shoemaking process. Beyond automated shoe machinery, ORISOL has proactively invested in developing software and system platforms to enhance equipment value.
Vincent Tseng, Executive Vice President of Enterprise and International Business Group at FarEasTone, highlighted that FarEasTone holds an optimal position in the 5G spectrum and possesses extensive experience in network deployment. This enables it to integrate critical 5G capabilities across industries. The tripartite collaboration with Siemens and ORISOL demonstrates the high reliability and stability of 5G communications in manufacturing, accelerating industrial smart transformation through the power of 5G.
